Developing AMR with the All-Around Builder Package
With the expansion of the autonomous mobile robot (AMR) market, countless AMR developers around the world are competing to release the most user-friendly ones. Axiomtek, as a leader in industrial PC, recently launched the AMR Builder Package; not simply selling vehicles of AMR, with expertise in software and hardware integration, it is an all-around turnkey solution that speeds up the time to market and helps developers take the lead in research and development. The package includes a controller, DigiHub for AMR, sensor kits, and development support services.
The State-of-the-Art AMR Controller
Coming along with the builder package, a state-of-the-art and rugged AMR controller was launched as well. The new ROBOX500 is a purpose-built AMR controller that is based on the 12th Gen Intel® processor and aims at heavy-duty vehicles such as forklifts and road rollers – the next promising frontier for AMRs. What sets this high-performance controller apart is that it is equipped with four GMSL camera interfaces, which provide a more stable and longer distance for image transmission, optimizing the data processing and then ensuring the precision of working action. The ROBOX500 features rich I/o such as two M12-type LANs, four USB ports, two CAN, four RS-232/422/485 and 16-CH DI, 8-CH DO to meet the demands of AMR.
Also, it provides a variety of M.2 slots to support Wi-Fi/Bluetooth modules, 5G modules, AI modules and NVMe. Moreover, the wide power input can range from 9 – 60 VDC and the wide operating temperature is from -20°C to 70°C.
However, according to the different types of AMRs that developers work on, the customers can also choose a controller other than the ROBOX500. What is flexible about the builder package is that other controllers with a high-performance processor from Axiomtek can also be supported by the package, which also includes the integration to the DigiHub for AMR, sensor kits, and development support services.

DigiHub for AMR
With high-end hardware including controller and sensors, software and hardware integration will be the cornerstone for stably operating the workload. Gaining support from the software development kit, Intel® Edge Insights for AMR, the DigiHub is based on the open-source ROS 2 ecosystem, it provides special nodes for precise positioning and navigation, smoothing the communication between sensors and the platform and accelerating the deployment.
In the basic version of the DigiHub for AMR, here are Intel AMR SDK, Axiomtek nodes, SLAM and navigation nodes, and GMSL camera and sensor fusion; in the advanced version, we provide Web-based management system, AprilTag and shape detection, and precise positioning and obstacle avoidance.

- ROS 2 nodes with Docker images
- GMSL camera and sensor fusion
- Web-based management system
- AprilTag and shape detection
- Precise positioning and obstacle avoidance
Reliable Sensor Kits
When we set AMR in motion, sensors are the eyes that guide the AMR. In the sensor kits, Axiomtek not only provides rich choices of pre-test sensors including 3D camera, LiDAR, IMU and ultrasonic, but also a compatible list that makes sure certain sensors and controllers can work smoothly. To heighten the movement accuracy to the highest level as much as possible, Axiomtek also provides adjunctive and tailor-made mechanical parts like LiDAR’s bracket that can physically correct and minimize the deviation of sensors. Also, we provide anti-vibration connectors and high-quality cables, taking care of every detail that influences the sensors and shortening the time to market.

- Mechanical parts
- Cables and connectors
Development Support Services
Even though the development of AMR can be sped up by the builder package, there are still a lot of tries and errors during the process. Therefore, Axiomtek particularly adds development support services into the package. The services are about sharing experiences. If customers do not possess vehicles yet, Axiomtek offers the reference design, which’s maximum speed reaches one meter per second; while the control accuracy is one mm, and it can pass the narrow aisle that is 65 cm wide. In terms of the reference design, the technical specialists can help with working on the vehicle body and sensor placement; additionally, the design guide and top modules are supported as well.
